Confronting Wilkes-Barre’s crime problem

While some residents are living in fear, others aren’t as fazed by the upturn in violent crime. Some residents and businessmen don’t even think there’s a problem. Like Lorenzo Medico, who recently chose downtown Wilkes-Barre as the home to his new bar, Luna.
“This so-called surge in crime is one I am personally not aware of,” Medico said. “If anything, I believe the crime rate has decreased, especially with the advent of the new light posts, the new influx of businesses downtown and now River Walk. Let us not forget that the police force is out in droves from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. every night. I do not fear the crime or threat thereof. In any major city, you are going to have crime. The important thing is to minimize it, as well as deter [criminals] from the area.”

As part of the club’s Derby bash, prizes will be awarded for best hat, best tie, best couple and best-dressed male and female. DJ Hersh and Gaje will provide music, and drink specials will be offered, including $3 classic mint juleps from 8-9 p.m.
POWER! Outage at Luna, Wilkes-Barre

Join other local professionals to mingle and network when POWER! shoots the moon at downtown Wilkes-Barre’s newest hotspot, Luna, at 41 South Main Street.
The POWER! Outage is scheduled for Thursday, February 5, at 6 p.m. with guest speaker Lorenzo Medico, co-owner of Luna. The event is free to POWER! members and $10 for non-members; membership applications will be available at the door. Drink specials and hors d’oeuvres will be available.

Club Luna set to open tonight…
Posted in Granding Opening on February 16th, 2008Club Luna will become the next addition to downtown Wilkes-Barre’s expanding nightclub/entertainment scene. It will have an upscale Miami type vibe from what I’ve been hearing. I did get a glimpes of the inside and it does look very posh and fancy.
